Egg Hatching 101: Day 7


The above video is a Day 7 candling we did last year during one of our hatches. You can read that post here.

I've been having to add water to the incubator more and more frequently, so this morning I added the fabric to the floor & wells that will increase the surface area of the water and therefore increase the humidity. We talked about this several days ago in this post about preparing an incubator.

On Day 7:

  • The beginnings of feathers are forming on the tail & thigh areas
  • Further development of the eye: the sclera forms
  • Leg starts to bend at the knee
We are done with week 1! Two more to go and hopefully we'll then start seeing some chicks appear.
