Egg Hatching 101: Day 10

egg at 5 and 10 days

We are on Day 10... almost halfway there! The image above shows the difference that just five days makes. Chicks grow quickly. This evening we will most likely remove a few eggs from the incubator due to non-development. We currently have 13 in there, so tomorrow the load may be a little lighter. This is completely normal, and whenever you incubate eggs, you should expect to have some that aren't going to hatch for a variety of reasons.

On Day 10:

  • Claws are forming
  • The comb has appeared
  • Flight feathers (on wings) and chest feathers are developing
  • Lower eyelids are developing
  • Beak begins to harden
