Buried treasures

Pulled the last of the potatoes out of the garden yesterday to make room for the new crop. Last year we lost a lot of our catalog ordered pricey "disease free" potato plants to, you guessed it, a disease. We had to rip out all of the plants (and cry about the wasted money). As a last ditch effort, I sprouted a bag of organic baking potatoes from the grocery store and planted them in hopes if getting SOME potatoes. While the plants didn't produce as much as some varieties we've planted in the past, we did get some.
Hopefully the weekend's forecasted rain will hold off long enough to get the new crop in the ground. I'm already a little behind schedule with them this year.

  1. We plant our potatoes on St Patricks day. I'm hoping to find some locally this year, I don't want to have to order from mail order. What kind do you usually grow?
