The hourly countdown has begun, and whether we're ready or not, Santa is coming tonight. I've been good, I swear.
This year we concentrated heavily on giving homemade gifts and I think we did well -- homemade canned goodies such as pizza sauce, banana butter, hot pepper jelly, banana peppers, and pear chutney, as well as homemade raspberry infused vodka and beer nuts have all been packed and delivered to our families. I was very happy with how it all turned out and hopefully after the holiday madness has faded a little, I'll have chance to post the recipes.
Tonight we are heading to my mother's house for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner with family and tomorrow we plan to have a lazy pancake breakfast (using Autumn's sourdough pancake starter) followed by having my mother and stepfather over for a lasagna dinner. We might have a present or two to open in the mix as well... ;-)
Our big gift this year was having all of our water pipes replaced. Exciting, huh? In theory, yeah, it's nothing we can play with or show off or even really see for that matter, but when you live in a farmhouse that is as old as this one, having a necessary hurdle moved out of the way is definitely exciting. This is opening the door we needed to be able to complete the new bathroom upstairs (that has been in the works for a couple years now) since we've been living with only the one downstairs bathroom since we bought this house six years ago.
So... not having to get up in the middle of the night and navigate yourself through this obstacle course of a house in the dark just to reach the downstairs bathroom... yes. Exciting. I can't wait!
As for now, it's finally time to sit back and enjoy Christmas even though The Boy is being all "grown up like" and not letting me open any of my presents early. Oh well. I guess I am going to have to scrounge up every scrap of patience I can find to wait until tomorrow morning...
~~~ Happy holidays everyone! ~~~
